An introduction to Petrichor Gardens and owner Kelby Furrer

I started Petrichor in the spring of 2020 when the COVID pandemic was in full swing and our futures were slightly uncertain. Looking for a way to break out of the restaurant industry, I brainstormed ways of making a living doing something I love and helping my community members become less reliant on large scale government entities. Home food production seemed like an all too obvious road to walk down.

Having grown up on a sheep farm in Wolcott, VT, I have always had a fondness for all living things and experiencing nature for the simplistic beauty and peacefulness it offers. I grew up gardening with my parents and ultimately learning to grow cannabis fueled my love for all things with roots. With more experience came an obsession with genetic diversity in our gardens and food culture. One of the pillars Petrichor is built on is the propagation of dozens of different strains of vegetables and flowers. With access to different genetics every garden is unique and therefore every plate is unique. I have never been more excited for the future.

About Petrichor Gardens

Petrichor Gardens is dedicated to helping members of the Vermont community grow their own food and to be independent from the large scale food web. While it is not possible to completely separate yourself from industrial food sources (especially in our harsh climate), with a home garden, a valiant effort is made to become self reliant. The satisfaction that comes with planting a seed, growing the fruit, harvesting, and creating a wholesome meal all within a few feet of your doorstep is a surreal feeling.
